Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Unless you're shopping for a five-year-old or happen to be really tiny, you might want to skip Century 21's clearance sale. A reader reported yesterday that the kids' section is rife with deals for kindergartners, but Madison Avenue Spy says adults have no such luck.

Century 21 isn't known for having a coherent structure among the racks, but our uptown friend writes that she was surprised by how much of the merchandise was not only disorganized, but also damaged: "We found it hard to keep track of the numerous torn, stained and ripped clothing." A pink Pucci coat ($425 from $849), a Jil Sander capelet ($300 from $599), and a sequined Plain Sud sweater ($80 from $230) were all standouts, especially since those pre-reduction numbers all reflect Century 21's original markdowns. But a $1300 Lanvin jacket looked like it had been through a war, and that's not the kind of military chic anyone's looking for.
