In the midst of speculation over the future of her brand, Jodi Arnold kicked off her winter sale a day early in her University Place boutique. A pre-sale was originally scheduled for today, but looks like things changed last minute. Hmm...and for a second, we thought we had the date wrong because the near empty shop was eerily quiet. That's actually good news, though, for fans eager for first dibs on fall and winter items marked from 60% to 70% off.
Aside from the $55 black silk shorts (toward the back right), the best deals are to be found amongst the dresses, which start at $110 for earthy-toned flowy silk and jersey numbers. The embellished dresses run around $125+ and we were impressed by the substantially beaded and embroidered detail and the artfully-painted patterns on the frocks.
Speaking of dresses, definitely check out the $130 black leather paneled and draped skirt dress, which in person was quite tempting. We hate to be vultures, but with all these rumors flying around, we were kind of hoping for another $50 leather pants sighting, similar to last year's sale, but no dice. The updated paneled moto-style version was going for $99 and the leather paneled skirt is $125. There were a couple leather jackets, too—a black blazer style for $225 and a brown faux fur collar bomber type for $275.
Also of note: Knits (including a heavy metal embroidered scoop neck sweater for $135 and a grey silk cashmere cardie with chain-piping for $155, from $451), a multi-color sequin mini-skirt for $166 and a scalloped embroidered detail silk top for $165.
As of this morning, there were no samples to be seen. However, a staffer said that Jodi Arnold herself might be dropping off some Spring '11 sample boxes this afternoon. She did not have an estimate on the price, but the last spring sale offered samples for $20 each. We can always hope.
There also is a chance of markdowns later in the week (please, please mark the leather pants down to $50!) Cash and credit are accepted and there are two dressing rooms for fitting. The sizes are random, although we did see a lot of twos and fours.
Of course, while we were there gathering intel, there was a big, silk-dress–wearing elephant in the room. The last standing Jodi Arnold boutique was filled only with past season sale items and the décor was pretty minimal. Staffers held strong and told us that they couldn't (or wouldn't) say what the future of the store or brand would be. Fans of the label might want to play it safe and drop by for embellished and marked down dresses while they have the chance.
