As luck would have it, we were depending on the Fashion Line transport us downtown to the Velvet x Uniqlo cashmere debut, but we were thwarted by a train delay. Not to be kept from a six-piece cashmere collection all priced under $150, we quickly hopped on the non-branded D train to check out part deux of the collaboration. Maybe everyone was still waiting on the Fashion Line or deterred by this hot sticky weather because Uniqlo was unusually quiet with only a few people casually perusing the near immaculate Velvet x Uniqlo racks.
Most pieces are priced at $129.90, including the boat neck long sweater (in light grey, black, berry and blue), the stole cardigan (which drapes really well and would be a fantastic layering piece in navy, wine, ivory and light grey), the dolman sleeve wide neck top (in grey, black, dusty rose and oatmeal) and a cowl neck short sleeve sweater (in black, grey, blue and ivory). Our favorites were the navy stole cardie and the plush oatmeal dolman sleeve knit.
For $149.90, shoppers will find two slightly more elaborate styles. The first is the hipster professor looking ribbed hooded cardie in grey, black, dark purple and blue. The second is a super soft long belted cardigan in black, grey, berry and camel, which is a fantastic and budget friendly option for jumping on that camel bandwagon for fall.
Stock was plentiful today and staffers promise that additional styles will arrive in the future, too. There wasn't a line outside for the launch this morning, which is a bit sad, but that just means more affordable cashmere for the rest us.
