Alter's Greenpoint Mini-Empire Expands to Williamsburg

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

For years, Alter has been one of the best reasons to make the schlep over to Franklin Street, Greenpoint's G-train adjacent hipster shopping strip. Now, their collection of cool and surprisingly affordable clothing for both sexes is moving to Williamsburg—not Bedford, but homey, friendly Graham Avenue, a neighborhood that's home to Brooklyn foodie hotspots The Meat Hook and Motorino but hasn't yet developed a real fashion scene. To speed that along, Alter plans to host evening events with local designers and artists.

The third location (there are two on Franklin) will carry labels like Cheap Monday, Kill City, and Rojas, plus shoes from John Fluevog, Jeffrey Campbell, and Osborn. It opens at 407 Graham between Withers and Jackson in late October. G-train phobics, do take note: That's only a few blocks from the L.
