"Like many older family members," Jon Caramanica writes in this week's Critical Shopper, "Ralph is adorable in its mustiness." He's talking about Ralph Lauren, of course, having toured the recently renovated menswear flagship inside the Rhinelander Mansion, and he's feeling pretty good about the label's establishment prep. A brown blazer inspires him to fantasize about life as a dance-company director, with a plaid three-piece suit for his later Lincoln Center years and brown moleskine jeans for weekend trips upstate. And he's really impressed by the hands-on service: "I was surprised that someone didn’t come up and oh-so-delicately snip the thread gauchely unraveling beneath the top button of my shirt." [NYT]
