Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
You can run, but you can't hide. You really, really just can't hide. The city-wide bedbug epidemic has now hit Niketown, which has been shut down for eradication since Saturday.
Though the invasion of tiny vampirical critters seems to have slowed in the past couple of weeks, this is the first case of the creepy crawlers hitting 5th Avenue's shopping district. Between lower Manhattan (A&F), Soho (Hollister), Midtown East (Victoria's Secret) and now here, bed bugs have covered more ground in New York than most tourists do in a weekend.
We, on the other hand, can't help but nervously itch ourselves and wonder—is there any area in Manhattan that's safe to shop bug-free?
