The Upper West Side Syms made its debut yesterday. The response? Well, it would have been crickets, but we're not sure there are any uptown. Writes a reader, "I realize that Fashion Week is eclipsing all news reporting, but the Upper West Side's Syms opened on West 80th. It's part of Filene's Basement on 79th, but there's no way to walk through one store to the other. Syms only sells men's and children's stuff. Filene's is now exclusively women's. There was no fanfare at the opening today. No 'doorbusters' sale or coupons or banners or balloons." Poor neglected Syms!
