Curbed reports that Roosevelt Island's retail strip might be getting a makeover. People like to compare the island's Main Street shopping drag to East Berlin for its uniform 60's-era storefronts, but now there's a chance that a private company will take over from the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation and shake things up a bit. Of course, the area is never going to get heavy foot traffic, but we're rooting for some enterprising brand to take advantage of the weird aesthetics out there and open a pop-up shop. (Next Target stunt, anyone?) Then again, islanders would probably prefer a good supermarket. [Curbed]
