Franklin Street in Greenpoint has been humming along as an indie retail strip for a while now, but it's about to get its first taste of major corporate sponsorship. The Brooklyn Eagle reports that Vans has leased the 15,000-square-foot property at 25 Franklin. Not only is the space big, but it's also column-free, making it an ideal location for the indoor skate park Vans wants to create. Local skaters shouldn't get too excited, though: According to the Eagle, Vans will use the building (and the 4,500 square feet of outdoor space that comes with it) for marketing and promotional events, meaning that any half-pipes they do build won't be open to the public.
