The Tourist Attraction That Never Sleeps

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Who's shopping at Forever 21 in Times Square after midnight? The WSJ sent an unfortunate reporter to skulk around during the shop's late hours—it closes at 2am—and find out. Her discovery: "A recent visit to the four-level store yielded mostly tourists, theatergoers and the occasional drunkard. On a recent night, there were even lines for the registers and for the fitting rooms." If you feel bad for her, feel worse for the people who have to work the late shift: Forever 21 employs "a full force" of security guards and plenty of nocturnal staffers. [WSJ]
