Looks like the faux storefronts in the Chelsea Hotel aren't a sign of retail desperation after all. Yesterday we linked to a report from Living with Legends, the Chelsea Hotel blog, suggesting that the hotel had put the signage in place to make up for a lack of actual stores. But it appears that an HBO movie, Cinema Verite, is filming in the neighborhood. Locals report seeing antique cars and crowds of extras standing around, so the old-timey signs might just be film props. [Living with Legends; On Location Vacations]
