Jill Stuart Says Goodbye to the New York Public Library

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Jill Stuart is best known for a few things: Designing sexy-feminine clothing, dressing Cher Horowitz in Clueless, and showing her collection every year in the grand entry room of the New York Public Library. Her runway show is always a media favorite because the setting is killer and the crowd is packed with celebrities, so Fashion Week's move from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center potentially has more of an impact on her label than on other designers.

From what we've heard, though, Stuart's got nothing to worry about. This time around, the label will show in the atrium of the David Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. While it might be impossible to recreate the feel of the library, reps from the brand say that the theater's marble and imposing architecture remind them of their previous home. And while Stuart's team is sad to say goodbye to the landmark space, they're happy to be supporting the industry and IMG. As for the spring 2011 collection: Stay tuned for a return to Jill Stuart's roots.
