Upper East Siders finally have a J.Crew Men's Shop to call their own. Encompassing two levels in a former Madison Avenue bank space, the shop looks like it's been there since the building opened. Every surface is encrusted in reclaimed and custom-carved pine planks elevating the humble every-wood into paneling fit for a Vanderbilt. The lighting is soft, the signage is art deco, and the built-in shelving is filled with apothecary bottles and stacks of perfectly folded mismatched shirting.
In addition to the curated collection of J.Crew menswear available at the brand's other three men's stores, the shop stocks special edition and extended suiting selections on the lower level. Look for Thomas Mason for J.Crew shirting, vintage Levi's, Benson and Clegg collar stays, and luggage from Swaine Adeney Brigg. Of course, the location also carries vintage-inspired Timex watches and assorted bands (adorably packed in test tubes), Alden footwear, a selection of grooming products and denim care detergents, Persol sunglasses, cotton-linen ties and scarves by Brooklyn-based The Hill-Side, pendants by Rogue's Gallery, Field Notes journals and writing implements, and outerwear by Barbour, Mackintosh and Baracuta.
Don't miss the basement vault stocked with oddities and treasures—throughout the store we spotted vintage bottle openers, Smiths 45s, first edition literature, hard-to-find magazines, art and design books, antique pocket knives and other assorted effects and baubles. And there are personal shoppers (ask for Ronnie—she knows her stuff!) for Upper Easters who need help honing their rustic-Americana J.Crew looks.
