This is Store Sidekicks, an end-of-the-week feature where we profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures that inhabit shops across the city. If you'd like to nominate your favorite store animal, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are a lot of fashionable French bulldogs in Brooklyn, but Dirt, the store pup who hangs out at Atlantic Avenue boutique Eva Gentry, might be the only one who spends his days rolling around in piles of Rick Owens wedges and brand-new Helmut Lang. He's also the only dog in Brooklyn who has a custom collar by Italian jewelry designer Maurizio Amadei's line MA+. And while Dirt isn't the first store dog we've profiled who has a blog—that honor goes to Sherman of Nolita shop Poppy—he's the only one whose blog includes pictures of him DJing and skateboarding.
Dirt is, to put it bluntly, the coolest Store Sidekick we've ever seen. He's cooler than we are; he's probably cooler than you. But much like Eva Gentry itself, Dirt's high-fashion exterior masks a laid-back, friendly core. While you're browsing stark black Ann Demeulemeester, Balenciaga, and the Row in the all-white, minimalist space, he's skittering around with his ears rotating like giant satellites, making the kind of goofy faces that only a Frenchie can make. Seriously, just go visit him. Even if there's no room in your shopping budget for some Rick Owens, you'll have a good time.
