Reed Krakoff's Construction Delays Mean a September Opening

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Reed Krakoff's Upper East Side flagship was initially scheduled to open tomorrow, but delays in construction have pushed the launch date back until September 7. Krakoff, the president and executive creative director of Coach, is an industry darling, and anticipation for the store opening has been building steadily since his line debuted last February. The new date ought to be pretty solid, coming as it does just two days before Fashion's Night Out. (The store's plan: Buy any handbag and get a hand-painted or monogrammed hangtag for free.) But fans who just can't hold out until until then can shop the collection at Saks.

Meanwhile, astute WWD readers might have noted that Krakoff's management is in the middle of its first big shake-up. Company president Graziano de Boni is leaving in November to pursue other interests. While news of his move comes the same day as news of the opening delay, we're told the two are unrelated.
