Keds x Gap's Squeaky-Clean Shop Hits Midtown Monday

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We really wish we could tell you that when the Gap and Keds came together to collaborate on a sneaker line, some sort of chemical reaction occurred between the two all-American brands and the result was so edgy it made Gaga herself quake in fear. Sadly, not so much.

The Gap's Keds are cute, like all Keds. Some of them are shiny. They all cost $40. And they'll be available in the Gap's rotating pop-up space at Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street starting this Monday at 10am and running through August 8th. The store will also carry clothing from Gap's fall 2010 collection and selected to go with the Keds—from the early images (above), expect a lot of red, white and blue.

There's really only one wild card here, and it's the on-site Design Your Own kiosk, which will allow shoppers to customize their shoes—meaning that if you were sufficiently creative (i.e. much more creative than we are) you could possibly come away with some exciting footwear after all.
