Back in February, J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler told WWD that the company would be opening its third Manhattan specialty men's shop on Madison and 79th Street sometime this August or September. Now, a reader spots the first signs of life at the space. His report:
Walking up Madison on my way home, I noticed to my delight a quirky whimsical image of a man sweeping up to get ready for the new J.Crew Men's store on 79th and Madison across from the women's store. It's a gorgeous old building and perfect for a very welcome addition to a fairly lady-centric Upper East side. Can't wait!Neither can we—especially since Drexler says the store will be designed to fit into the neighborhood, meaning it will look completely different from the downtown shops in Soho and Tribeca.
Incidentally, doesn't J.Crew's janitor share a certain cartoonish insouciance with Isabel Marant's Mr. Hatman? One more of these, and line drawings of helpful little men will officially become the best retail signage trend of 2010.
