How can Anna Wintour oppose restaurateur Serge Becker's new West Village Jamaican venture Miss Lily's when she supports another late-night neighborhood restaurant? Page Six points out that Wintour lives a block from Minetta Tavern, which gives her first crack at reservations and makes special deliveries to her home. One of the Wintour family's major beefs with Miss Lily's is that it will stay open late, but Minetta doesn't close til 2am. Becker supporters also see a more sinister undertone to Wintour's campaign: "Some Villagers believe that opposition to Miss Lily's may involve subconscious racism, because many in the mostly white neighborhood fear the place would draw large crowds of Caribbean-born customers."
