The La Perla sale opened yesterday to gigantic crowds determined to wait in line despite the soggy heat. Sample Sally braved the queue but was ultimately defeated by the weather. (She reports staring at the chocolates melting in Bergdorf's Sex and the City windows, feeling a tragic sense of kinship.) Before she left, though, she spotted an elderly woman with a walker patiently standing in the heat, making the rest of the city's shopping population look like a bunch of sissies. Ma'am, whoever you are, we salute you and your dedication to lingerie.
