Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

PHILADELPHIA—Racked National alerts us to the start of the Joan Shepp sale in the Sixth Borough. Why should you care about a boutique that's a two-hour bus-ride away? Because Shepp has great taste and a very brotherly-love approach, which means her collection of labels like Comme des Garçons, Margiela and Rick Owens come in a full range of sizes—not just 2 through 6. WILLIAMSBURG—Not long ago—though maybe too long ago in ongoing-oil-spill time—we wrote about Matter of Trust, a non-profit that collects hair from salons and groomers to make oil-soaking bolsters for the Gulf. Now, it turns out that two 'Burg institutions are offering their services. Get your head shaved for $10 at Woodley and Bunny any Thursday this month, and they'll send the resulting clippings to Matter of Trust. The puppy stylists at Dog Addiction are offering a similar deal, giving discounts on Wednesdays and Thursdays and donating all the shorn fur to the cause. [Previously; Brooklyn Paper]
