Starting on Thursday, mannequins will be amongst the best dressed in New York City. Thirty-two designers, including Jason Wu, Kenneth Cole, Michael Kors, Isaac Mizrahi, and other local favorites, have been selected to partake in Sidewalk Catwalk, a public art project put together by Fashion Center Business Improvement District. Along Broadway, from 35th Street to 41nd Street, mannequins dressed in designs created specially for the occasion will be on display from June 24 until September 3rd.

Already, the mannequins have taken their places along the strip, some with fabric spelling out from under the covered displays. (Oddly, we didn't see anyone on the scene building or securing the valuable outfits.) One of the mannequins we recognized was the leopard-print covered doll designed by Diane Von Furstenberg. Others to look forward to include Betsey Johnson's blonde, tattooed mannequin, Nicole Miller's shiny, rubber striped and glow-in-the-dark number, and Tommy Hifiger's model draped in an American flag, which extends outward as if it's moving in the wind. The Fashion Center BID has organized the project partly to showcase the talent coming out of the area, so the clothing is made from Garment District-produced fabrics, and local schools like Parsons and FIT got their own mannequins to dress.—Joann Pan
