This is Store Sidekicks, an end-of-the-week feature where we profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures that inhabit shops across the city. If you'd like to nominate your favorite store animal, drop us a line at tips@racked.com.
When we heard that Williamsburg boutique Charlie and Sam was housing some of the cutest (and most well-behaved) shih tzus on Grand Street, we had to go see for ourselves. We found Charlie and Sam sitting together greeting customers as they came through the doors to a lovely collection of cute rompers, hip jumpsuits, silky shirts and a great selection of flats and wedges. Charlie and Sam are very important dogs—they're not only the constant companions of the store's founding sisters, but also the boutique's namesakes. Owner Claudia Argiro explained that they named the store after their dogs because they are both unisex names, fitting well with the store's balance of men's and women's merchandise.
Since opening Charlie and Sam a year ago, Claudia and her sister and co-owner Daniela Parker Bowles have developed a strong following of local customers and tourists who appreciate the girls' keen sense of style and eye for picking up-and-coming Brooklyn designers. There are also great pieces from designers who work out of Los Angeles, Australia, France, Italy and the UK. We loved the Repetto flats, great menswear and the widest selection of Siwy denim we've seen.—Joann Pan
