Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
What will you be at 5pm EST? Hopefully heading out the door on your way home from work, right? But, if you're anywhere near the Time, Inc. building on West 50th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, you should stop and watch as Cynthia Rowley debuts her Resort 2011 Collection right there on the street from 5-6pm.
Watch for the big black bus, which has deposited models so far today in front of both the Conde Nast and Hearst buildings, bringing the fashions to the fashion editors, and by extension, the public. We swung by the Conde Nast pitstop and although Anna Wintour didn't descend from the 12th floor for a look, we did note that Cynthia herself was on the sidewalk talking up the looks.
And what looks! The chunky-heeled shoes, made of woven strips, are the real show-stoppers. Though the printed ones are floral-print, from only a few feet away they better resemble postage stamps, and we're total fans of this effect.
Each model steps out of the bus, goes for a quick presentation over to Cynthia, takes her turn on the black photo backdrop for whoever wants a picture, and then she'll just stand and look pretty as if she worked in the building and hopped out for lunch to meet a retinue of paparazzi.
Don't pass up the chance to see in person the fashions that won't hit the glossy pages for another few months yet, and perhaps even mingle with the editors making those pages happen.
