Brazilians Buy Hammacher Schlemmer's Historic Midtown Home

A Brazilian company just bought 145 E. 57th Street, pretty much guaranteeing that Hammacher Schlemmer will leave the storefront they've occupied for some eighty years now. HammSchlem's disappearance wouldn't be a huge surprise—their long-term lease expires this September, and they've been talking for a while about finding a new location. Assuming they don't renew, new landlords the Malzoni Group will be looking for a sexy new tenant to give the building character. The company's broker tells the Post that they plan to renovate the space and then "shop the branding and naming rights based on the retail anchor."
