Things have been looking pretty sleepy lately on Bowery side street Extra Place. The block is supposedly in the middle of transforming from the gritty alley behind CBGB's into the cheery pedestrian mall behind John Varvatos, but it hasn't quite attracted the retail that the Avalon Chrystie development promised when it moved in. Tonight, an art gallery called The Proposition opens with an exhibit of wooden furniture, prompting EV Grieve to take an inventory of the block. His count: Three open stores, including the new gallery, plus four or five open spots. Well, it's almost halfway there? Click through for some visual compare-and-contrast.
