SOHO—H&M showed up at the latest Landmarks Preservation Commission meeting all excited about a plan to renovate their storefront at 558 Broadway, but the LPC smacked them down. The idea, says Curbed, "was to strip the old bricks from the two-story building and replace the 1920 facade with big panels of glass and 'polymerized concrete.'" But members of three different landmarking groups put up a fight, accusing the Swedish fast-fashion giant of trying to "obliterate a charming piece of Soho" and putting up "an advertisement for H&M." PARK SLOPE—Madison Rose, the hip Carroll Gardens maternity shop, is opening a second location in Park Slope. The lease is already signed, and they're aiming to be open by June 15th. We have the craziest feeling they'll do well in that neighborhood. [RackedWire]
