Anna Wintour has personally selected Oprah Winfrey to host the Metropolitan Museum of Art's legendary Costume Institute Gala Benefit and the NY Post risks being struck by lightening by daring to question Wintour's decision. The Post hits pretty low by picking on Oprah's past wardrobe decisions (Uggs and Eileen Fisher "stretch pants"), bringing up the weight thing and actually calling her "frumpy". Quite a few fashion bold-face names like Robert Verdi and Isaac Mizrahi are quoted in the article, wisely defending the talk-show host/queen of her own empire. Even Kelly Cutrone throws her insight into the mix with what we think is a Team Oprah: "She has to come up with an outfit every fricking day. I don't think she ever tried to be a fashion player—she just works her ass off. She's probably like, 'Just get me a maroon top and maroon skirt.'" We have full confidence in Oprah to exceed expectations with her most likely Wintour-assisted wardrobe decision tonight. [NYP]
