This is a big week for big sales; and if you're anything like us you're head is spinning because you're trying to hit all of them. Well, you can knock this one off your list and save yourself some aggravation—at least for now. Staff International is home to Maison Martin Margiela, Viktor & Rolf, and DSquared2; and their sample sales are usually legendary. You get two incredibly desirable labels (and DSquared2) with slashed price tags, plus a visit to the posh, sky-high showroom Diesel built. This time? Not so much.
Not that there's nothing pretty enough to take home—of course there is. Hello, Margiela? There's just a lot less of it than we're accustomed to seeing at their sales. And too much of what is there are cheesy tee shirts and super-basic basics that most tend to buy from places that aren't Margiela. Plus, everything is priced as marked and prices are wholesale. So you're saving 55% off retail but tees are still $76 to $98; shirting is over $200; and that cute jersey blazer? Still $500. That said, we're assuming additional discounts will pop up tomorrow once they need to clear the racks. So maybe wait until then?
To add insult to injury (we take shopping very seriously and are currently both insulted and injured), the sale isn't even in that posh showroom! Follow signs hand-written on brown paper shopping bags to a freight elevator. It opens to a raw, vacant space that is poorly lit and offers exactly one mirror (which was inaccessible because one shopper was stationed in front of it stripped and trying on roughly 14 different pairs of pants the entire time we were there). Good times!
