Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Nordstrom's hotly anticipated off-price department store Rack, which opens tomorrow, only takes up the bottom level of the gigantic Virgin Megastore space at Union Square. So what's going in to the ground-floor space? We'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count because the answer is just that obvious and depressing. OK, fine, here's a hint: The initials are "DR" and they already have ten locations within a half-mile radius.

Yup, there's a work permit (click here for the full view) on the windows at E. 14th Street and Broadway announcing that Duane Reade has filed for "fit-out partitions" and "wall and floor finishes." We don't see a projected completion date, but somehow we get the feeling locals will be able to find shampoo and paper towels elsewhere in the neighborhood while they wait for the work to get finished.
