Sunday afternoon, an SUV collided with the Crosby Street side of the Sur La Table storefront in Soho, knocking over a fire hydrant in the process. It looked horrific, but according to a manager, nobody was injured. The driver walked away unscathed, and the store remained open throughout the afternoon. Nobody seems to know what caused the crash. One eyewitness reports that cops on the scene said the driver "lost control," but even the police weren't sure why. She also tells us that Soho passersby all seemed to have the same reaction to the accident: Asking everyone on the scene whether they were filming a movie.
