When we first heard that trendy mini-chain Otte was selling off merchandise from designers like 3.1 Philip Lim, See by Chloe, Alexander Wang, and Helmut Lang for under $110 a pop, we thought it sounded too good to be true. Well, we checked out the scene at the 26th Street sale, and we were right: It was too good to be true.
The sale is in a space that could easily serve as a storage room. When we walked in, it was so quiet that we would have thought we were in the wrong place if it weren't for the flyer on the closed door. We were also clued in—marginally—by the lone rack of womenswear accompanied by a very small rack of jeans on the left side of the room, and the several bins of clothing laying on a table in the middle. The first rack held about ten pieces, all from See by Chloe. We spotted two Philip Lim ruffled skirts, one Helmut Lang sweater, and two of the same Rag and Bone navy pencil skirts with leather triangles at the hips. There were also many Twenty8Twelve red dresses with pleat details and many Blank Jeans for $25. We also saw one Ports 1961 dress.
While the selection was small, the prices were really great and so were the pieces. Most were either $49 or $79. Sadly, the sale was only for the skinniest among us—it was rare to see anything beside a size 2. Although it is very possible to leave this sale with a great See by Chloe skirt for only $49, the sale was so small that it was depressing. And who wants to be depressed when they shop?
