Amidst rumors about yet more shake-ups on its design team, Ungaro has quietly opened a boutique in the lower-level retail section of the Plaza Hotel. Ungaro's womenswear designer Estrella Archs stepped down last week, and today its menswear designer Franck Boclet announced that he would follow her. Meanwhile, JC Report founder Jason Campbell tweeted this morning that Giles Deacon was officially in as the brand's new head (though Ungaro hasn't confirmed this news.)
If Ungaro is looking for a respite from all this chaos, it certainly picked a quiet place for its new location. The Plaza Retail Collection has struggled to draw shoppers from Fifth Avenue, though it's possible that Todd English's food court will change things when it opens this spring. The new shop, which carries womenswear, accessories, and perfume, is currently Ungaro's only New York location—its Madison Avenue outpost shuttered in February.
