Here's an odd story that makes us wonder what other hidden treasures Loehmann's has buried within its walls. Our trusted informant's tale begins with her stopping by the Chelsea location looking for Brunello Cucinelli. She writes:
I was surprised to find not one Brunello Cucinelli item so I asked a sales associate if the section had moved. She told me that all BC was placed in a private room on the fourth floor near the fitting room. When I got there, the woman in front of the room said she had never heard of the brand and that there was no such room.
I went back to the sales associate who had told me about the mystery room and had her escort me back up, where she explained to her colleague that they had to move all BC after a sales associate from a BC retailer (I'm guessing Saks) complained that she's selling current merchandise for full price! The salesperson made a complaint to Loehmann's so they had to move all stock off the floor.
Fortunately for us bargain shoppers, Loehmann's has an out-of-sight-out-of-mind philosophy. So, if anyone's looking for some BC at Loehmann's in Chelsea, they need to go straight to the 4th floor to the stock room opposite the fitting room.Crucial caveat: When we called the store to confirm, they told us most of the stock was up at 73rd and Broadway—but maybe they just didn't want to let us in on the secret? If you go, do let us know what you find.
