Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Right now, on the Co-op floor of Barneys' Madison Avenue flagship, you can buy the goods of some of your favorite designers and even meet them, as part of a huge, hip trunk sale. The event (with free drinks!) is called Trunk-a-Palooza, and of course we're reporting live from the scene, where ten designers are taking orders for Fall 2010.
5:30pm: Alright, we're here and it's already fairly crowded. The biggest crowd is over at the Alexander Wang tent, also there's no Wang to be seen yet.
5:32pm: Nautical fever! So many shoppers here are sporting striped sailor shirts.
5:35pm: We spot the Vena Cava girls talking to fans! Nicely punctual, too.
5:40pm: VPL and Wayne have a section together. They say that traffic to Trunkapalooza was been pretty good earlier, but now with the after-work rush, it's really beginning to pick up.
5:47pm: Again, the most popular section is Alexander Wang. Eager girls are swarming the bags, as Simon Doonan and Daphne Guinness look on.
5:48pm: You will no be surprised to hear that Daphne Guinness is standing on heel-less platform shoes.
5:50pm: Surprisingly buttery pretzels are being served.
5:53pm: There's only one other person checked into Trunkapalooza on foursquare. C'mon, fashion people!
5:55pm: So here's the question: are people buying? We see a lot of browsing and the dressing room is not crowded. There's not even a line.
6:00pm: Rag & Bone actually created some little badges for tonight only. They are cute, like swatches of fabric with random baubles dangling off.
6:10pm: Now I'm over in the 3.1 Phillip Lim area. It's seeing a lot of action, but not nearly as much as Wang or Vena Cava.
6:30pm: Haven't updated as much because we're too busy staring at Guinness and her gravity-defying shoes. Wang bags are still the hottest item, and girls are now taking interest in the clothes.
6:40pm: It's getting busier and busier, but still enough mini champagne to go around. Despite the rain, more after-work shoppers are streaming in. Visit before it closes at 8! We're signing off, to go browse the offerings from Shipley & Halmos, A.L.C., Helmut Lang and Richard Chai's LOVE collection.
