The Julie Haus sample sale kicked off this morning to a quickly growing crowd shopping for fabulous deals on samples and past season stock starting at just $20 for tops. Julie Haus is known for her deliciously girlie garments with thoughtful details like scalloped tiers, ruffles, ruching, delicate pleats and luxurious fabrics, like silk and organza. The sale is organized by Fall '09 to the right and the treasure trove of samples to the left.
Let's start first with the sample racks, where shoppers can find pieces from Fall '09 at a fraction of the price, plus Fall '10 pieces that just shipped to stores (like the sexy 70's black front zip romper we quickly snapped up). Samples are priced at $20 for shorts, $35 for pants and skirts, $45 for tops, $55 for dresses, rompers and jackets and $95 for coats. Shoppers should look carefully through the racks to find items like a silk v-neck zip front Fleet Street dress ($105 in the Fall '09 section), a sexy silk light grey v-front and back romper with a wide ribbon belt, an adorable sequin multi-color mini cocktail dress, a plethora of lovely Fall coats and so much more.
In the very back, there is also one rack of "Red Heart" items which are press samples or damaged pieces. Dresses go for $25 (full price list in the photos), but that rack has been pretty picked through. Also note there is a rack of marked-down past-season garments with prices starting at $15 for cream embroidered city shorts and $25 for colorful bustier tops.
Once you've made your way through the samples, definitely mosey on over to the neatly organized Fall '09 selection where equally as fantastic deals can be found. Dresses run from $45 to $125. We loved the Adair tunic dress with front ruffles and side pockets in a dark berry shade, and a Grecian style draped silk Baron dress in teal, both for $48 (originally $405). We also found an adorable puff sleeve, ruched collar black jacket for $45, along with matching pants for $35.
An increasingly crowded communal dressing area is located in the back and there is a five-piece maximum allowed inside. The staffers are extremely helpful and friendly. Also, Julie Haus was, shall we say, "in the house" and extremely friendly and gracious. An overzealous shopper actually asked Julie to make her a coat since her size was not available, presumably at the sale price. (Pretty ballsy considering she just bought an $800 dress for $55, along with a ton of other deals.) Julie politely declined, explaining that it as too hard to find the fabric at this stage. Head over soon for the samples as the lunchtime crowds are probably fast descending. Cash and credit are both accepted.
