Britney Un-Photoshopped

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Cut presents us with "before" and "after" images of Britney Spears in her latest ad for teen shoe brand Candie's. Britney asked the company to release both shots, which is pretty bold of her even though she looks totally cute (if slightly less like some kind of taut-thighed sex robot) in the unretouched photos. Still, something about the pictures nagged at us, and we spent five minutes squinting at them, trying to figure out what was wrong, until it hit us: Those shoes. They're terrible. Presumably that's not the reaction Candie's was going for, but wouldn't getting rid of the black mules make every single thing about this image better? [The Cut]
