We think about designer collaborations and Bergdorf Goodman a lot, but rarely in the same thought, but they threw us for a loop today with the news that they would be partnering with of-the-moment designer Jason Wu for a limited-edition, 8-piece capsule collection that will be sold on-line exclusively, starting May 14.
As for the clothes, WWD is reporting that "the lineup ranges from chiffon day pieces to more structured sheaths, inspired by what Wu calls classic American style." In other words, things Michelle Obama would wear. The line features defined waists and a color palette of lemon yellow, red, and navy blue. But just to clarify, we're still talking about Bergdorf Goodman, and this will be no "masstige" line. Dresses will retail between $1,150 to $2,990.
"We developed the package from best-selling styles and fabrics from the past few seasons, as well as a few new silhouettes," Bergdorf's Linda Fargo said. "We created this package with him to capitalize on his strong business, especially in cocktail." She also said the line could continue with another Bergdorf-exclusive Jason Wu capsule if this one goes well.
