Beyoncé and her mom Tina Knowles will be in Dumbo today to launch the best-named beauty school initiative of all time: The Beyoncé Cosmetology Center. Based out of the Phoenix House, a residential rehab clinic, the school will provide a seven-month training course for people trying to overcome drug addictions. As the DumboNYC blog points out, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have looked at apartments in the neighborhood; she's clearly a fan, and this seems like an admirable way to give back to the community. We would sort of like to see the school expand into a full-blown university, if only so that we could root for the football team, which would obviously be known as the Fighting Sashas. [DumboNYC]
