Fashion industry heavyweights including Maggie Rizer, PPR chairman François-Henri Pinault and Barneys Fashion Director Julie Gilhart have banded together for "A Bid to Save the Earth", a green auction at Christie's to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The influential fashion insiders have rounded up their friends and contacts to donate items such as Harry Winston watches, a private fitting and custom suits from Stella McCartney, David La Chapelle original photos (including "Rape of Africa") and more. For those whose pockets may not run that deep, Barneys and Loomstate partnered together on a collection of organic cotton tees inspired by the media partner NBC's peacock logo. There will also be a silent auction online, from April 8 through May 6th, which includes meeting the cast of Friday Night Lights (Riggins and philanthropy make us very happy). Gilhart is also rounding up her contact list of fashion celebs to film a set of PSAs tomorrow and Friday throughout the city. Earth Day takes place on April 22nd.
