Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The news from the Upper West Side is pretty bleak: Crain's reports that asking rents for retail are down 20% from the peaks of 2008, and that "actual taking rents" are down something more like 40%. In January, we counted 27 empty storefronts, but it might be time for an update. If nothing else, we'll have to add the 12,000-square-foot Gap at 87th and Broadway to the list. [Crain's]
