The news from the Upper West Side is pretty bleak: Crain's reports that asking rents for retail are down 20% from the peaks of 2008, and that "actual taking rents" are down something more like 40%. In January, we counted 27 empty storefronts, but it might be time for an update. If nothing else, we'll have to add the 12,000-square-foot Gap at 87th and Broadway to the list. [Crain's]
