Designers Deliver Piping Hot Footwear to Saks Fifth Avenue

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Today's shoe porn comes courtesy Saks Fifth Avenue's 10022-SHOE department, which just announced its "Special Delivery" capsule collection. The department store tapped six emerging designers to create a total of 20 styles, some of which will sell exclusively at Saks. Granted, "emerging" is a relative term here—Daniele Michetti has serious experience working on YSL menswear, Rupert Sanderson has stores in London, Paris and Hong Kong, and Gianvito Rossi grew up in the business Sergio Rossi's son. But that's a minor quibble, especially since the designers' experience seems to have resulted in some intricate looks. As StyleList points out, there's a crazy range of materials at work here: "Eel skin, mesh, wood, mirrored surfaces, Plexiglas and ribbons all come into play." The shoes hit the Saks flagships in New York and Beverly Hills this week.
