Tribeca's Tween Invasion

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Hudson Street clothing-and-toy store Babylicious has changed its name to Torly Kid in an effort to attract 9-to-12-year-olds. Downtown Express sees the reinvention as evidence of bigger demographic change, calling it "a sign that Tribeca’s baby boom is starting to age." Of course, all those fourth and fifth graders are going to be surly, trendy teenagers in a couple years. If we were Urban Outfitters, we'd start scouting a location below Canal immediately.
