Welcome to Drunk Shopping! Our new feature celebrates the time-honored tradition of getting totally wasted while the sun's still shining before buying a bunch of debatably useful stuff that the sober you would be too timid or too restrained to take home. Each Friday we'll cobble together a new itinerary starting you off with a boozy Saturday or Sunday brunch before meandering through a few neighboring retailers and happy hours notable for seasonal specials, limited time availability, fantastic deals, recent openings, or new shipments.
It's a little wet outside, but don't let it dampen your spirits—the weekend is here and with it comes inebriation and poor shopping decisions! This time around we'll be trolling Soho. We're classing up brunch just a bit—because we're classy—and starting our day at Boqueria on Spring Street. Skip the entrees—we're not that classy—and instead share a bunch of prime Mediterranean nibbles like spinach sautéed with raisins and pine nuts, quail eggs on toast, fish fritters, and heavenly dates stuffed with almonds and wrapped in bacon. The best part: Pitchers of blood orange mimosas, spicy Bloody Marys, and sangria top out at $32. And they have fries. But don't dilly dally—your credit card is lonely.
Start out by heading south. Buckler's fall and winter collection of rock-inflected menswear is marked down 50% and new merchandise is just waiting to be tried on. Then, head a little further south and cross Broadway: Opening Ceremony is always worth a stop—especially if you haven't yet checked out their two newest collaborations with Levi's and Dr. Marten's. The Levi's pieces consist of spring-weight slouchy cords in off-kilter neutrals and the Dr. Marten's are low-top oxfords in '90s shades of hunter and plum, or punk-nurse white. While we're still on collaborations, might as well trek back to Broadway and take a right. Uniqlo's pastel-heavy +J spring wear—aka the Jil Sander stuff—is still quite fresh and there's a bit of +J menswear from fall marked down to a song way up by the windows upstairs.
Now, obviously, it's time for more cocktails and a bathroom break. Take a right back on to Spring Street and pop into Gatsby's. It's not Friday night so you don't need to worry about the Sports Brahs and Club Tops—and they have an all day happy hour. Hello $3 beers! Properly watered, you can now hit the real bargains—a Save Khaki sample sale and the Zachary's Smile attic sale await! Head north on Lafayette and hit Save Khaki first for 60% off retail on their boy basics—we're talking $10 tees and their famous pants for only $40. Ladies, you'll want to bum rush Zachary's Smile. Prime vintage awaits, and a mix of mod, boho, and even designer looks top out at only $30, so why not pick up some $5 one of a kind jewelry as well? With these prices, the brunch bill will be a distant memory.
So celebrate! Botanica's legendary happy hour is likely in full swing—get a cocktail and put down the tip with a single $5 bill, then relish your new wares.
