J.C. Penney's to Launch Henna-Inspired Cindy Crawford Jewelry

Cindy Crawford's name still has power, and J.C. Penney's, which launched her home decor line in April, is applying that name to its jewelry department with a 40-piece collection called One Kiss. WWD reports that the "kiss" is a henna symbol that will be realized in sterling silver, gemstone and diamond designs.

"When I started speaking with the jewelry team, we were definitely aware of the success of the Jane Seymour collection for Kay [Jewelers] and her universal symbol of an open heart," Crawford said. "But obviously, we can't redo what someone else has done. So we looked for a universal shape that had an appealing aesthetic. We came across this henna symbol for 'kiss,' which I liked. It was cool, but I love what it means. It's not necessarily a romantic kiss, it could be a mother's kiss. You can also buy it for yourself."

It's actually kind of refreshing to see someone in fashion say "obviously we can't redo what someone else has done." And it's also pretty great to see a celebrity "designer" give credit to the actual designers. Penney's designers went to Crawford's home in Malibu and sorted through her jewelry to get an idea of the sort of things the supermodel likes. "I wanted the designers to see who I am, not as a model or as 'public Cindy,'" Crawford said. "Person Cindy," appears to involve wearing jeans and walking barefoot on the beach. While wearing diamonds, of course. (Come on, she's still a supermodel.)

The collection includes stackable rings, layered chains and earrings and will retail between $79 and $299 when it launches in April online and in J.C. Penney's stores.
