Poor Escada Sport in Soho Never Got a Chance to Shine

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Bankrupt German label Escada was recently rescued from oblivion by an Indian steel mogul at the behest of his daughter-in-law, but the incoming Escada Sport in Soho clearly wasn't so lucky. Big Cushman Wakefield "sublease" signs have gone up in the windows there, although the listing has yet to appear on Cushman's site. The store had been under development since October of 2008; as recently as last July, architects were presenting their work plans to the local landmarks commission as if the site was set to move forward.
