The Jodi Arnold Sample Sale Is a Must

Jodi Arnold kicked off her sample sale and art series this morning, offering up to 80% off her winter/resort 2010 collection. This sale is excellent, not just for fans of Mint, Redbird, and Jodi's eponymous label, but also for savvy shoppers looking to stock an intelligent and flexible wardrobe. Given all the embellishments, layers and leather in greys, blacks and taupes strut down the fall 2010 runways this Fashion Week (not to mention the florals for this coming spring), the items on offer today are right on the money to bring you through the next few seasons.

To start off, the deal of the day is a pair of soft black leather-front pants with an ankle zip, going fast at $50 a pair (mostly in size 6 and 8). There are also a few black leather motorcross detailed jackets for $150 each. Next, make a beeline to any of the embellished pieces—dresses are $125 (regularly $380-$470) and all tops are $75 (regularly $240-$320). We loved a taupe peasant-neck belted dress with leather paillettes and sequins (ideal for one of those day-into-evening get-ups) and a strong and sexy black tunic top covered in heavy metal gold beading.

The "plain" dresses are $99, but "plain" is a misnomer, since they have their own detailing of vibrant floral patterns, soft fabrics, draping and tiers. The sweaters by Mint and Redbird for $65 each (marked from $250-$360) make fantastic layering pieces. from slouchy crochet Mint vests to butterfly-sleeve Redbird sweaters in grey and black. Sizes run from 0 to 10 in dresses and tops, with the bulk of the items in sizes 4 and 6. The sweaters run from petite to large.

There is small communal fitting area in the back and the sales staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Accommodating staffers even stripped a mannequin of the last remaining pair of leather pants in our size and offered a student discount to a shopper one day early because she has exams tomorrow.
