Ethan Hawke Plus Early Madonna Portraits Equals a Hell of a Party

Last night a mob of downtowners went way north of their 14th Street comfort zone for Prince Peter Collection's fall 2010 show at the Hudson Hotel's basement Good Units bar. Called Virgin Spirit, the event featured a series of breathtaking early Madonna portraits by Richard Corman. The shots served as both an inspiration for the screen-printed '80s-New York-meets-'90s-Seattle collection and as a backdrop for the evening which included performances by Jessica 6 and Dan Black, both of whom covered classic Madonna tracks.

Prince Peter's second-ever collection, presented runway-style as Jessica 6 covered "Justify My Love," was a fun mix of club-inspired tees and tanks plus the items you'd wear with them. Clad in tops that were screen-printed (or in some cases, studded) with safety pins or newspaper classified ads a la Desperately Seeking Susan, the models wore garish club kid make-up and a series of higher-than-holy-hell Dr. Marten's in a myriad of colors.

Guests—including Ethan Hawke, Kelly Osbourne, and photographer Mick Rock—burst into applause as the show came to a close and the models plopped down on stage in a huff. Others danced uproariously whilst staring down audience members and guzzling from plastic cups of free-flowing Stoli cocktails.

The true stars of the evening (besides all that Stoli—JKJKJK) were most likely Corman's photos. The series of never-before-seen prints—boy toy and earlier Madonna at her best and most fun—hung on either side of the runway. They were available for sale in very limited runs (they were a lot cheaper during the event than they are today, trust), and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Haiti relief charities. We wanted them all.
