Liveblogging the Shows: Yigal Azrouël

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In an effort to make reading Racked NY as much like being in the tents as humanly possible, we'll be liveblogging the shows all week, from the suspense of waiting in line (will the seats be any good?) to the drama of the runway (will anyone stumble?) to the post-show euphoria. This time around: Sophisticated city-girl looks from Yigal Azrouël.

Show location: The Promenade at Bryant Park
The skinny: Yigal is known forvery dressed-up looks that can go from cocktail party to red carpet, but aren't exactly meant for lounging at home. He goes heavy on the draping and use of black and grey leathers.
Celebs spotted: Diane Birch, Malin Ackerman, Bryanboy, Linda Fargo from Bergdorf Goodman, and Fern Mallis of IMG Fashion. Yigal himself is a semi-celeb, too.
The takeaway: The show began with signature Yigal styles: sexy black and grey dresses and hardcore black leather drapey coats with a Rick Owens vibe. And then there was a shocking red jacket, and after that everything changed. Draped black cocktail dresses were embellished with Swarovski crystals, men paraded out in long-john pants and Fair Isle sweaters with elbow patches. Chunky charcoal cardigans on men gave way to long and slinky dresses on the women, the latter in fully saturated colors like red, fuchsia and violet. We don't know about the pleated leather pants with tapered legs, but overall it was a solid show.

11:20am: I'm in! Don't see any big celebs, but TV host and fashion personality Lauren Ezersky is here, as is her excellent new haircut.

11:24am: Not quieting down yet. A few women are here with babies. Other interesting sights: Somebody's dressed as Dorothy, with a blue pinafore and red shoes. And I'm mesmerized by one photographer's giant boots.

11:32am: Starting!! Very dark and rock music. Furry arms! Menswear!

11:37am: Everything is black or gray except for one red jacket. I'm seeing pinstripes. And—this is weird—Fair Isle long underwear on the men.

11:37am: Heavy knits, chunky cardigans, lots of cozy red.

11:40am: Almost everyone is wearing pants.

11:41am: Now we're seeing more Fair Isle, plus elbow patches. Very New England.

11:42am: Now a caramel silk shirt.

11:43am: Hood scarves! The monk-robe thing is really emerging as a trend this year.

11:44am: Loving the leather shirts. And here's a long, very sleek purple dress with a cross back.

11:45am: Time for the finale.
