Stuart and Wright's sample sale has a great selection, few customers, and decent prices. First we checked out the menswear which was chock full of plaid, cardigans, and jackets. The majority of the men's clothes were tonal sweaters or shirts priced anywhere from $60 the $300 range. There was plenty of Rag & Bone: Rag & Bone's blade shorts in mushroom, for example, were $63 from $250. We also saw also a lot of Garments Engineered in a gradient of grays. One heather gray sweatshirt cardigan was $85, while a navy nylon jacket was $185 from $348. If you've waited until now to get outerwear on sale, go nuts: We found a really great military jacket from Acne, plus a promising Moncler down jacket ($384) and a vest ($248).
The women's prices were a bit lower, and while the clothing was from the winter/fall season, much of what we saw could easily take you into the spring. Jeffrey Montero, Rachel Comey, and Lewis Cho dominated, with the latter as the real winner— he had some beautiful skirts and silk patterned dresses that were elegant and fairly priced at under $100. Most of the Jeffrey Montero and Rachel Comey items, on the other hand, fell over the $100 mark.
Sadly, we didn't spot any Rag & Bone for women, nor much from Acne, though we did note one pair of Steven Alan shorts. In the back, another hidden cove was filled with Lawless t-shirts, In God We Trust dresses, and two racks of Doucette Duvall dresses and tops. Most shoes were Rachel Comey in the $100 range or Isabel Marant boots for between $300 and $500.
The lowdown: Go, but go now—today was a slow day, but we don't expect well-priced Rag & Bone to survive a Brooklyn weekend.—Lauren Frankfort
