What's more stressful that shopping at Macy's the week before Christmas? Shopping at Macy's the week before Christmas when a suspicious package or two inspires the NYPD to evacuate the entire store. According to reports from DNAinfo and All Media NY, cops got a call about a bomb scare around 12:30pm today after mysterious suitcases turned up at two of the store's entrances.
Shoppers and staffers were asked to leave the building while members of the bomb squad investigated. DNAinfo reports that they were allowed back in around 2pm "after a member of the counter terrorism unit, clad in a bomb suit, cut open the suitcase and found clothing inside." (While All Media reports two suitcases, the DNAinfo story only mentions one.)
The incident was New York's third bomb scare of the day: Earlier, Newark was shut down after a scare involving a computer, while a questionable minivan earned a bomb squad visit on Fifth Avenue near the Met.
